Our clients
Formerly known as BoulePark, Jack and Boule is a project founded by Alec Feakes, Oliver Rudge and Richard Willing, three fanatics of the game of boule whose aim is to make Urban Boules accessible to everyone.
When a site in Southbank because available to them, they called Atelier EURA to lend them a hand with the designs for what it was originally intended to be a summer pop up.
The strategy
From the start the client knew they wanted to have eight courts, a bar and street food but they were uncertain about how to make the space work or what capacity it could achieve.
Furthermore, our initial discussions also highlighted that we were all keen to minimise waste and find uses for the materials once the build reached the end of its life.
With both the above in mind, we designed a venue with minimal amount of materials that could be repurposed,
The Process
This project was a collaboration of many people situated in different parts of the country and in order to bring the design together we developed a model from the start to discuss, test and agree our ideas.
Winterisation
When the land owner, Coin Street, saw the build complete, our clients were able to extend their contract beyond the anticipated period and hence in the same spirit of minimising the use of materials, we decided hat to do so, a tensile structure would be the best way forward.
With a strategy in place, we prepared the design documentation for the summer and the winter layouts to be summited to planning. The proposals achieved planning and the Jack and Boule will remain on site until 2025.
Update
After 9 months running the venue, Jack and Boule have now become part of Boulebar Group, a Swedish company that has been running in this space since 2004.
